Play.com Affiliate ProgramPlay.com Affiliate Program

The Play.com Affiliate Program is on Affiliate Window, and pays up to 10% commission. As you would expect from a market-leader with a very strong brand, conversions on site are very high indeed, with an average conversion rate reported of 12%, on an average basket value of £35.00 per order. There are a huge range of banners and buttons available to promote the Play.com affiliate program, including static HTML and some really nice automatically updated Flash banners which show the latest releases etc. There’s also a really nifty “DVD finder” tool, which will help those undecided browsers choose their ideal films to buy.

For those affiliates who utilise Product Feeds on their websites, the Play.com Affiliate Program offers their full product range on the Affiliate Window feeds system, which is widely recognised as the very best system for integrating feeds. For the less tech-savvy affiliates, there is also the “Shop Window” and “content Widget” systems, which are basically cut and paste bits of code that use the feed system to return relevant products that are in stock, and the current price. At the time of writing, the Play.com Affiliate Program had 91,514 products listed in their feed – More than enough for most affiliates!

Play.com have strong anti-fraud detection in place, so you don’t see that many fraudulent orders coming through, and of course most people get what they’re expecting when ordering CDs and DVDs, so the validation rate is pretty high for the Play.com Affiliate Program (around a 97% approval rate for most transactions)

About Play.com

Play.com was launched in 1998 as a rival to Amazon and CD-WOW in the Cheap CDs and DVDs market. By basing themselves in Jersey, they were (and still are) able to ship goods worth less than £18 to the UK without having to charge the end user VAT. This obviously meant that they could charge 17.5% less than their rivals and still make exactly the same amount of profit. Launching to a price-conscious Internet at the perfect time, Play.com was almost instantly embraced by the web as a whole, and as a result have more than seven million registered customers, employing more than 500 members of staff.

Whilst they have remained true to their roots of Cheap CDs and DVDs, they have also branched out into Video Games, mp3s, Games Consoles, electronics and clothing amongst many other items. To further annoy Amazon, they even sell books, and unlike the Book giant, Play.com offer free delivery on all items, with no minimum spend. So if you buy a £6.99 book, it’s yours – delivered for £6.99. Easy. That’s why customers love them, and that’s why affiliates love them too.

Yeah, you’ll need your own website, which will need to be approved by Affiliate Window and/or Play.com themselves. As above, you can’t do direct-to-merchant PPC either.

    Hi Lammo,

Quick questions, is affiliate window the best affiliate network to promote play.com as I know that buy.at also offer play.com. I don’t know if there are other affiliate networks out there that offer the play affiliate program.

  6. avatar Lammo Says:

    Hi Matthew,

All affiliates have their preferred networks – In theory there shouldn’t be any difference between promoting the same program on AW or buy.at – AW do pay quicker which might sway your decision?

Getting paid quicker does help :) Thanks for the info
