It could be Barbados or Butlins

Well here we are, another year older and another year wiser.. well most of us! I’ve decided to condense the blog posts somewhat this year, as I know it’s going to be tough to find the time to blog regularly otherwise, so expect one or two posts a week with a wide variety of topics… a bit like this really…

New Years Resolutions – My last blog post of 2007 looked at the resolutions I made in 2000, and on the whole I managed to tick most of them off (including a biggie). This year I haven’t really given too much thought to resolutions. I’m always setting myself targets throughout the year for work anyway, so any resolutions would only be a list of hopes, and the only thing I hope for is to still be healthy and happy this time next year.

Affiliate Window’s Xmas gifts – I was one of the people who had a bit of a moan on this thread regarding the promotion run by Affiliate Window this past Christmas. My point wasn’t having a pop at AWIN because I’d won a naff prize (I won a “free fitness consultation”), it was the fact that I’d been torn away from the family on the one single day of the year that everyone’s meant to be together.

I don’t see what would have been wrong with doing the promotion on Christmas Eve, or Boxing Day (which is the actual day you’re meant to open all your presents), or even 9pm on the big day itself. As it was, I was making excuses halfway through the Queens Speech when everyone else was just relaxing. If AWIN do it at the same time next year, I’ll be staying with my family, and not going near the computer – I think even affiliates deserve a day off.

Plans for 2008 – As everyone else seems to be doing right now, we’re looking to sort out our holidays for the year. We’ve got one booked already, but when pricing up our main getaway in the summer (we stayed in Blighty last year, and look what a great summer we had!), I couldn’t believe the prices, so have decided to book the dog into Kennels for the

first 2 weeks in August (we’re tied to school holidays ‘cos Er Indoors is a teacher) and just go for a late availability jobbie. So it could be Barbados or Butlins, and it’s quite fun not knowing!

Work wise, 2008 is going to be more of the same as the latter half of 2007, which was really successful for us. I think 2008 is going to be a monumental year for the industry as a whole, and I’m looking forward to a decent slice of the pie, thank you very much!

0% commissions – There’s a storm brewing over this one, mark my words. Several merchants have already pleaded poverty over certain items like Wii’s and DS Lites, and said they can’t afford to pay commission on them, so have set the commission rate to 0%. And now we’ve got a massive merchant like Dixons who have incorrectly set thousands of products…

Unfortunately, thanks to some pubescent French hacker, the rest of this post is not available.

New Year’s Resolutions – I’m not one for making NYR in the traditional sense as I’ve big enough and ugly enough to get off my arse and sort stuff out at any point of the year if it needs sorting out. However, I do think the beginning of the year is a good time to take stock from a business perspective and consider what ‘needs’ to be achieved in the coming year.

As an affiliate, Christmas is such a massive peak that the few weeks after Christmas Day are a good time to review my successes and no doubt some failures. Thus, jan is a good time to sort this out for the coming year.

0% Commissions – I’m with you on this. If merchants want me to spend time & money sending them traffic – show me the money!
