I have found that, if you have an interesting and valued site, simply following people on twitter who show an interest in your subject will quickly attract followers. So there is definitely some scope here. But does it really compare to the 1000s of new visits Google sends every day?

I still think there are too many people trying to use Twitter for something it isn't. RSS already pushes content. Websites already host news and updates. My favourite to date is train updates over twitter. Why would I go and sign up to every train company on the off chance they actually send a relevant update the one time I need it. Personally I'll just Google "south west train live departures" if and when I need that info. 100 times easier than trying to track it in Twitter. Surely?

Twitter has some (limited imo) uses for sure. But it's not going to replace the search engine, RSS or even the humble web page.
