uVme – MySpace, but monetised.

uvmeYou wouldn’t believe the hype my inbox has seen over the last 6 weeks over the latest product to be released by Virtual World Direct. I’ve literally received over 100 emails every single day bigging up the “pre-launch” of the “biggest event ever to hit the Internet”

Finally, the emails have stopped. The secrecy has ended, and I’m finally allowed to know what this fantastic new product is. And you know what? It’s not a bad one!

uVme (That’s “You v Me” in case you can’t see it) is basically a Player vs Player gaming website, where people can challenge others at online skill games such as checkers or backgammon. Both parties pay a small amount, the house takes a rake, and the winner gets the pot. It’s a model that has worked very well for the likes of King.com and Yahoo! Games.

So VWD have basically taken this already proven model, and added a mlm twist to it, with an associates program that allows you to earn commission from the rake for every player you introduce to the site, for the lifetime of that player.

Add in a social networking site and messenger tools, together with your own blog, and the tools uVme are supplying to help spread the word virally is tremendous. It really could be like having your own MySpace page, only you get a percentage of MySpace’s profits (which would be nice!)

This being MLM, it’s not a free-to-join affiliate program, and the “compensation plan” is not as straightforward as it really should be. But if you can cut through all the “live your dreams” BS on the official uVme site, there does appear to be a good product with the potential to earn some good money.

Just when I thought the hype was over, think again – uVme is still in “pre-registration” mode, and the games (and therefore commission) don’t go live until September, so I’ll expect a load more emails to start flooding in over the summer (assuming the summer ever actually gets going that is!). Of course, the good thing about this extra delay is you can join up for free now, have a good look around, think up marketing/SEO/PPC strategies and have them in place ready for the initial launch.

Personally, I don’t think it’s “the biggest event ever to hit the Internet”, but as Del Boy would say, it could be a “nice little earner”
