Film review - Night at the Museum

I’m hoping to blog regularly about films I’ve watched as a result of my Lovefilm subscription, as the films I see will be completely random (i.e as they’re sent to me), and I currently have around 65-70 films in my watchlist, with a nice combination of old classics and brand-new blockbusters.
First on my list then is Night at the Museum, a family comedy with an amazing cast-list, including Ben Stiller, Ricky Gervais, Robin Williams, Owen Wilson, Steve Coogan, Dick Van Dyke (yes, really!) and more.
If you accept the premise of the film (that everything in the museum comes to life after dark) and just enjoy it as a family flick, then it’s a fantastic film. Nothing too serious, but no real belly-laughs either. I’m still not sure about Ben Stiller as a leading comedy actor, but the Wilson/Coogan double act, and Ricky Gervais as the curator more than makes up for that.
It’s a bit like Jumanji in a couple of ways (Robin Williams, Being chased around by CGI elephants indoors, monkeys going wild etc), but that’s no bad thing - If you liked Jumanji, then you’ll like this.
It’s a film that I’ll probably watch again when it’s on TV (bound to be a Christmas Day movie next year), as it’s the sort of film you can just switch off (your brain that is!) and enjoy with few sodas and some popcorn.
I’ve given it a rating of 4/5 stars. Also currently at home on my subscription is The Sopranos Season 2 disc 3, and Curb your Enthusiasm Season 2 disc 2. There are currently 66 titles on my wishlist. If you would like to recommend a film that I should add to my wishlist, please let me know!
